Some STIs may not cause any symptoms. For this reason, some screening tests are advised at specific intervals for all sexually active young adults.

Appointments for STI screening can be requested at any time, after an exposure, or as part of a routine gynecological visit. You and your medical provider will discuss what makes sense for you.

In many cases a simple urine test is all that is required, other times a blood test is needed. A pelvic or genital exam is often not necessary to perform STI screening.
