International Travel Preparation Services

Schedule your pre-travel visit early. It may take a month or more to complete immunizations and medications you may need before leaving the United States for travel or study abroad.

  1. Review the Destinations section of the CDC Travelers' Health website for health and vaccine recommendations by specific country and region for your itinerary. Your provider will need to know all your planned destinations to accurately determine what you need.
    Note: If yellow fever vaccine is required, please review the information about the vaccine below.
  2. Schedule an appointment for either:
    1. A travel physical exam or form completion if required for your travel abroad. Orders for travel vaccines and medications can sometimes be taken care of at the physical appointment or a second visit will be required.
    2. A pre-travel visit where a Student Health Services provider will order appropriate vaccines and medications for your destination, based on the recommendations from the CDC.
  3. Schedule a nursing visit. After your pre-travel visit or physical with a provider, you will most likely  need an appointment with a nurse to receive your ordered vaccinations. You can often schedule this appointment for the same day.

Yellow Fever Vaccine Requirement

Yellow fever vaccine can only be given at official administration sites and unfortunately, Student Health Services is not one of them. If the CDC travel website indicates that your destination recommends or requires the yellow fever vaccine, you will need to schedule an appointment at an official administration site.

  • Some destinations require  you to receive the vaccine at least 10 days prior to entering the country
  • Allow plenty of time to arrange for yellow fever vaccination, as there may be a delay in getting an appointment at community travel clinic which is an official yellow fever administration site.
